Wednesday 2nd August – Windsurf *** - mainly cloudy with some rain.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storrm 6.5.

Had arranged with fellow foiler Robet to meet up at Levington Maina to have some fun with Storm Patrica, he was also lending me a mast base as mine broke yesterday and my new one is not arriving for a few days! The rain so I hitched my trailer noticing the search helicopter over the sea at the end of our road, a lady walking by said there was loads of activity down on the seafront with the RLNI lifeboats out so I decided to head down to see what was happening. Several police cars and coastguard vehicles were parked on the prom just past the Spa theatre, the area was also cordoned off, with two lifeboats searching with another approaching from Walton I think. I learnt that a mobility scooter was found in the Spa gardens and the owner was sadly missing:( I think the search went on all day until heavy rain arrived in the afternoon and the search was called off, a complete mystery, fingers cossed for a happy outcome and hope the peson concerned is not in the sea which was pretty rough with a good breeze blowing! I then went home to sort out my pics which made me late fo windsurfing but I arrived at the maina around 11.30 with the conditions actually looking marginal, not very inviting really with some dark clouds threatening rain! We decided to give it a try and quickly set up our foil boards, Robert rigged 6 while I went for 6.5, we both got weed on our foils when launching which we had to sort, then then the best part of a couple of hours playing hunt the gust! The SW wind was very up and down with some pretty big gusts when a 4.7 would have been perfect! You just had to grit your teeth and hold on, had some fun gybing on the corner before having a couple of long runs up past Pin Mill, gthen with the tide turned the wind just dropped and I floundered back. I was lucky enough to back up, shower and reach home before the heavy rain arrives, where has the summer gone, we have had a lot of crap weather off late!
Not sure about tomorrow yet with a dropping breeze from the NW and showers it might not be worth the trip into deepest Essex, will make up my mind in the morning?
